30 different grind settings
You guessed it, the Baratza Sette 30 gets its name from the number of grind settings it can offer. You’ll get a wide range of grind settings, from medium to fine, which will help meet any of your home brewing needs.
Although it fits a wide range of brewers, the Sette 30 was designed with finer grinding (like espresso) in mind. It excels in the arena of fine and extra fine grind, which allows you to make small but meaningful adjustments to your espresso shots.
It’s also great for manual brewing methods like pour overs and Aeropress as well.
No-mess bean hopper
If you’ve owned a grinder before, you know that cleaning it or switching out coffee beans can be a total mess and annoyance. But with the Sette series, Baratza has your back.
The bean hopper, which holds up to 10 oz of your favorite coffee beans, comes locked and loaded with an innovative locking system.
When you’re ready to grind, you can unlock the hopper. When you’re ready to remove the hopper, just simply lock in the stopper and remove the vessel with absolutely zero mess!
Grind directly into multiple vessels
The Baratza Sette 30 truly is versatile in more ways than one. It comes built with adjustable device holder with removable arms located beneath the mouth of the grinder, which allows you to lock in a portafilter for espresso, or use your own grounds container for storage.
The Sette 30 also comes with its own grounds bin.
LED backlit screen
Adjusting your grind settings is as easy as possible with the backlit LED screen on the front of the grinder. You can make manual adjustments to the grind time, or you can program up to three automatic time settings to repeat in the future.
Innovative burr set design
You’ve most likely heard it from us before: we love conical burr grinders. And Baratza is one of the top dogs when it comes to innovative usage of conical burrs in at-home grinders. But the Baratza Sette series really takes the cake (I’ll take a slice of cake with my coffee) on innovation.
Inside most conical burr grinders, there is a system of two cone-shaped (conical) burrs grinding together at different speeds and distances to produce the grind size you desire.
But with the Sette series, there is in fact one burr that rotates around another burr, which creates an even more accurate grind with less heat friction and more high speed grinding than competitors.
You Said What about Conical Burrs?
Conical (or cone-shaped) burrs are what you’ll find in most higher-quality at-home grinders on the market today. Burr grinders are proven to have more precision and less friction than blade grinders, which use rotating blades to grind the coffee beans.
Burr grinders are going to have more accuracy to them because you can control your settings more. And with the innovation of the Baratza Sette series, you’ll have even more accuracy to your grind size.
Like we mentioned, a conical burr grinder will normally consist of two burrs of equal size. In the Baratza Sette 30, there is now one burr that is rotating around a central conical burr. This helps the grinder function at an even higher speed, but at lower retention.
What does lower retention mean, though? Well, this basically means that fewer coffee grounds are going to get stuck in the grinder itself. In previous Baratza grinders, a major complaint among reviewers was that they felt some of the coffee was being wasted by getting stuck. Baratza has made changes to their burr designs to ensure this happens less!
Baratza Sette 30 Grind Settings
The name is a dead giveaway, but the Baratza Sette 30 comes with a capacity for 30 different grind sizes. These settings, also known as macro adjustments, are easily set by manually turning the knob located underneath the hopper.
This grinder is perfect for beginner espresso enthusiasts and fans of other brewing methods requiring a finer grind, like pour over or Aeropress.
For those who are using more advanced espresso machines where they’ll need to fine tune their settings, we’d recommend the Baratza Sette 270.
The Sette 270 comes with micro adjustments between each macro setting, which is something the Baratza Sette 30 doesn’t have.
Size, Aesthetic, Price
For how powerful it is, the Baratza Sette 30 is decently small and lightweight. The grinder weighs 7 lbs, and is about 15 inches tall. It is only 5 inches wide and 9 inches deep, which makes it easy to store on any kitchen countertop.
