We replaced a 10 year old Baratza grinder with this one...and couldn't be happier. The digital timer is a nice feature along with the lighting so the grind is visible. And the ground coffee is consistent and exactly what our french press needs. Bravo Bratza, bravo.
I’m glad I went with the Virtuoso over the Encore. Had used an Encore at my parent’s many times over, and it’s always been a perfect home grinder. But the addition of the timer, for me, is completely worth the extra price. Other upgrades are great as well, but I appreciate the function of the single button push.
Upgraded from a cheap ceramic hand grinder, and the difference in grind quality and convenience is night and day. Can easily get through 30g of coffee in under 20 seconds, which used to take me 2 minutes. I appreciate being able to switch between timed grinding and pulse grinding, if there's still a little bit left over after the initial grind.
Outstanding grinding performance on the few settings I tried. It is a little noisy early in the morning but not enough to downgrade it's rating.
Does a good job, enjoying fresh ground Sumatra decaf in the afternoon makes life good!
This Baratza Virtuoso Plus Coffee Grinder works GREAT! Love the new digital display and front button to control grind time.
Also, I find very little static buildup in the ground coffee. My previous Baratza would literally explode with coffee dust when I pulled the ground coffee out.
I only used it to make drip coffee every day, but will, when I get the "itch", make some French Press coffee.
Beautiful machine and a lovely even grind! Worth every penny.
The grind is fairly uniform, more so at fine settings and the operating noise is acceptable. Setting the timer is a little involved -one direction increases in seconds, the opposite direction decreases in 1/10 second intervals. Generally a good value.
Service at FP.com is outstanding - much good advice from Igor.
Well, first off, I had a cheap $40 grinder and it was torture using it. Not only that, the sludge was horrible, which I take to indicate a very inconsistent grind. Well, I had ordered a highly reviewed pound of organic beans from Guatemala. Now, with my old grinder, grinding the beans would have been a battle lasting, yes, you're hearing this right, around 40 minutes of fighting to get the thing to work. With this Baratza, it took less than a minute and, wow, so much more consistent a grind. I noticed no sludge while pouring. So, as I type, I'm drinking my first truly delicious cup. My daughter, who never drinks unadulterated coffee had some unaltered brew and she said it was amazing.
This is all from one who has never had a decent grinder before, but I'm absolutely stoked.
Definitely glad I took the leap and purchased this grinder. It's a joy to use and creates perfect grinds for brewing.
