You can almost always count on Baratza products to be some of the best on the market. At-home coffee grinders like the Baratza Encore and the Baratza Virtuoso have given craft coffee beginners a chance to brew excellent coffee right at home for an affordable price. The Baratza Sette series (including the Baratza Sette 270W and the Baratza Sette 270Wi) delivers the same excellency as the company promises, but this grinder is a large step up from the previous products.

One of the most distinguishable features that separates the 270 from Baratza’s previous at-home grinders is its enormous grind range. When you look at the front end of the grinder, you’ll notice 30 markings that show the “macro” grind settings. These range between espresso to manual brew (Aeropress, V60, Pour-Over, Chemex). Within these markings, there are 9 “micro” settings, which are perfect for fine tuning your espresso grind with accurate precision. The Baratza 270 has the most grind settings (between macro and micro) of any of Baratza’s previous home grinders.

The digital control panel with an LED display screen is another appealing feature of the Baratza 270 Burr Grinder. The backlit LED screen makes grind adjustments simple and easy on the eyes in any lighting. This control panel has three programmable dosages for setting different grind times. This feature allows you to experiment and find dose times that work for different brewing methods and then quickly access your favorites in the morning when you’re ready to brew!

One of the more interesting features that Baratza added to this grinder is the convertible device holder that keeps whichever device you want to grind your coffee into in place. For example, these arms can be adjusted so you can grind directly into your portafilter, or you grind into the supplied grounds bin if you’re planning on storing your coffee for a little while longer. The Baratza Sette 270 comes with both the portafilter and a 5.5 oz, BPA-free plastic grounds bin that you can use when grinding your beans. The adjustable arms can also be changed to fit other types of bins or jars as well, depending on your storage needs.

When you’re done dosing and grinding your coffee, the clean-up process is easier than ever. The plastic hopper comes with a “hopper door” that helps you remove access beans without creating a mess. You can rotate the hopper door, remove the hopper, and store the rest of your beans without wasting any or having them go everywhere on your countertops. This of course saves you energy, but saves you precious minutes when you’re getting ready to start your day. For more deep cleaning procedures, you can easily remove the burrs from within the hopper to dust and clean them occasionally. Baratza recommends doing this bi-weekly for upkeep and maintenance.

As you can see, the Baratza 270 Grinder is ahead of its time in at-home grinder capability. These features, plus many more, are all meant to make your home brewing experience simple and delicious to ensure that you’ll never have to sacrifice good quality coffee to stay at home.

Baratza Sette 270 Features:

Enormous Number of Grind Settings: The Baratza 270 gets its name from its numerous grind settings! There are 30 marked settings on the front knob of the grinder, ranging from 1 to 30 and espresso fine to manual brew (Aeropress, V60, Pour-Over, Moka Pot, Chemex). Between this range of 30 “macro” settings you’ll find 9 different “micro” settings. These allow you to fine tune your espresso grind down to an exact setting based on your desired needs. You’ll be able to experiment with your favorite beans and favorite dosage time, all while having an enormous amount of options for dosing!

Easy, Digital Control Panel: The digital control panel and LED display screen make for a quick and easy grinding experience. The LED display helps bring ease to your eyes, even if you’re grinding coffee in the early morning hours as the sun rises.

No Spillage: The Baratza Hopper attachment was designed with an innovating “hopper door” that opens and shuts when you need to remove the hopper. This feature gives you the chance to clean out the hopper and remove beans without creating a mess in your kitchen.

Advanced Burr Technology: The 40mm conical burrs in many other Baratza grinders usually work by pushing together to grind beans as they fall through. The new burr innovation in the 270 actually works as an inner and outer burr ring. The outer burr rotates around the inner burr, which grinds the beans and leaves no pesky remnants behind.

Messy

I think the portafilter hanger is too close to the grinder.

Very good results after a couple misfires

I was close to purchasing the Breville Smart Grinder Pro but had second thoughts after seeing several reviews stating the machine is not truly espresso-ready. So I went with the Sette 270. The grinder purchased from FPC was defective. Malorie at Baratza customer support was great and promptly replaced the unit. The dial-in process eventually led me to a good pull, but by then I was all the way on the finest grind setting available. After another email exchange with Baratza support, I added a provided shim to the lower burr assembly. The adjustment was simple but required dialing-in all over again. The tweak provided me with more wiggle-room on the main grind setting dial. The Sette is a on the loud side and isn't perfect when it comes to retention but overall I am happy with the performance. For espresso grinding, I can't think of a better machine at it's price point. Now that Breville is purchasing Baratza, it will be interesting to see how they reconcile & integrate the above-mentioned grinders into the combined product line(s).

Easy to use and works great.

I purchased to baratza sette 270 mainly for espresso(i pirchased a flair 58 and am waiting for it to ship out). In the meantime ive used this grinder for aeropress and v60 and it works great. Definitely has a little break in period but even during that break in period ive been making the best coffee ive ever made.

Thank you for your feedback. We are appreciate it very much. All the best, FrenchPressCoffee.com

Game Changer: Baratza Sette 270

Thank you for the very fast, first rate service & shipping. Used for espresso. This Sette 270 grinder changes everything! Easy set-up & adjustments, sturdy, very fast, no ground retention & delivers absolutely perfect grinds. Best investment ever. Huge bang for the buck! Should have invested in it years ago & saved the frustration.

Great grinder

I drink mostly espresso and this machine is great for it. You will need a funnel to contain the grind from flying around due to static.

It is kind of noisy and messy due to its straight-through design, but the minimum retention feature of this grinder really makes a huge difference.

Highly recommended.
