urnex Grindz Coffee Grinder Cleaning Tablets Review - Awesome stuff!

I've used Urnex Coffee Grinder Cleaner before it was rebranded as Grindz. It works very well with my Baratza Encore grinder. At first I thought it was pretty expensive on French Press, but the size of the Grinder Cleaner was 7.6oz and the new Grindz is 15.2oz...so basically twice as much.

Many years ago I switched to only using a French Press to make coffee because the hard well water...and even hard city water would cause my high-end coffee makers to last less than 2 years. And since we used to get power outages in heavy spring & summer rains, I can make coffee without needed electricity, .I do this with a car jump pack with an inverter to run my coffee grinder and I have a gas stove.

Anyway I grind two batches of 1/2 cup whole beans for two French Press batches that I keep in a thermos once brewed. And I typically use a 37 - 38 Encore grind setting since I want a course grind for the French Press. So the grinder isn't grinding for espresso or other coffee types.

For cleaning on the 1st of each month, I remove the hopper, gasket, ring burr, and brush out old grounds. And also use the brush on the chute.. Then I take the Baratza outside with canned spray air (for computers and camera cleaning) and spray out any left over debris. With the Bartaza back in my kitchen I reassemble in reverse order with ring-bur and am very meticulous about installing the silicone gasket over the ring bur tabs. Then install the 0-40 hopper and adjust it to 20.

Although this may be overkill, but for my grinder, it is recommended 30-40 g Grindz, I bump it up to 70-80 g. 1/3 cup is about 77.8g so I use that amount grind the tablets. The Grindz tablets are a great diagnostic for how your grinder is working. Typically I find very uniform coarseness of the ground tablets with very little dust. Although I bought a Baratza Encore ring-burr assembly and M3 burr cone replacement I might not have to install them for another 5-10 years since I do use a very course grind

After cleaning and viewing the ground tablets, I dump out the ground tablets outside. I remove the hopper,, silicone gasket, and ,ring-bur. I take them all outside and do another canned air cleaning. Then come back inside, reassemble the Encore and run 1/3 cup of whole beans and review the grind nd dump those grinds outside. My remote, wooded, somewhat private residence is one giant compost site. lol

Anyway with this method, the coffee always tastes great and no residual taste and no unpleasantness. Also once I see the Grindz tablets not grinding as uniform on setting 20, then I'll know it is time to replace the gasket, the ring-burr assembly, and M3 burr cone gear.

And don't forget to buy all your parts and coffee supplies from The French Press. They are awesome and have a wide selection. Support your smaller non-Big-Corp businesses. It may cost of few bucks more But I can tell French Press is all about improving the caffeine culture and coffee experience.

Seems to work

It did seems to clear the burrs of a burr grinder somewhat and did not add any taste t0 the coffee that was ground in that particular machine.
