1st impression was it was heavier than I thought but kind of a pain to get the gasket on. Also, it is shipped with the tab for the top burr out of place.
The grind has much more precise control than my old Capresso. Coarse is the right consistency. Hopefully lasts many years.
I'm new to the world of grinding my own coffee, but wish I had started years ago. I had originally went out and bought a blade grinder but as my knowledge grew decided I really should have gotten a conical burr grinder, so I got the Baratza Encore. The grinds are much more uniform which really makes a difference in taste since there's not a bunch of overly fine grounds getting overextracted while the coarser grounds are underextracted. Also, I don't have to bounce the grinder up and down while it grinds like the blade grinder. The Baratza Encore seems to be well made, easy to use and works as expected. If I haven't come back to append to my review, it means I'm still using it and have had no problems, if I do I will be back to let you know.
The Baratza Encore - Conical Burr Coffee Grinder. So excited to give this a try. It was easy to do initial clean and setup. Small problem with trying to turn the grind dial initially but figured it out. It is best to press down lightly at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions to turn the dial and get pass whatever makes it get stuck when you press down at the 9 and 3 o'clock positions, which is what you think you should do given that you have to insert the hopper's vertical tab into the vertical groove at the 3 o'clock position. The noise is acceptable and the grind is consistent. Love the smell of grinding my own. Coffee does takes better ground just prior to brewing. It does get a bit dusty from grind particles when you remove the holding cup but it is not excessive. The machine is a decent size for the average kitchen, fitting easily under standard shelving heights. I am really pleased with this purchase from French Press Coffee. I especially like the personal touch that dealing directly with FPC affords and will buy from them again. Will do follow up review after 1 month.
I've had other burr grinders, none as elaborate as this one and I know that they offer more high end models in their line from Baratza but this for now is great! This is my first conical burr, the others were flat and much less expensive but this one is affordable and should last a LONG time for making several different styles of coffee (press pot, pour over, automatic drip and even espresso) for me for a long time! I highly recommend this product for both a novice and even an experienced coffee drinker who wants an economical new grinder.
