What Grade is the Stainless Steel in a French Press?

Have you ever wondered what grade of stainless steel is a French Press made out of? Why does it never rust, even after using it every day? Well, it all has to do with the grade of stainless steel in the french press.

The french press is made with 18/10 stainless steel. With all kitchen tools made from stainless steel, you’ll find either 18/10, 18/0, or 18/8. These numbers reflect the amounts of nickel alloys and chromium used in the steel (i.e 18/10 - 18 refers to 18% chromium content and 10 refers to 10% nickel content)

Stainless Steel French Presses

18/10 stainless steel has the largest percentage of nickel added, which helps prevent rusty surfaces and makes for better heat distribution. Nickel naturally keeps rust away, so when the number of alloys is higher, you’ll have a shinier, longer-lasting surface. Nickel alloys are also necessary for distributing heat evenly, which is necessary with using a french press.
